Alaskan High Kick NYO

ALASKAN HIGH KICK
This is a game of balance where the athlete sits on the floor below a target with one hand grasping the opposite foot. With his/her remaining free hand planted on the floor, the athlete springs up and attempts to kick the target with the free foot. After kicking the target, the athlete must show balance upon landing - he/she is at the original position before kicking. Height is the objective.

Alaska High Kick

ALASKAN HIGH KICK

Yes Ladies and Gentlemen, The NYO was the most exciting, educational Native event I have witnessed. I have pictures and videos. This blog isn't video friendly. I will have to post them elsewhere, Facebook or YouTube so you can see them. The events were nothing you would ever think existed. All of these are brought thru generation after generation. Very exciting

New walk around town, Front St.

Here are some pictures I tool around the Village today. I don't usually go down this street. It is front street. There are boats and motors, trucks, vans and probably cars buried in snow. People digging out their homes, A couple of buildings were open, but I couldn't get in because of the snow. Darn. I would love to get in and take pictures. No luck today. There were a lot of interesting snow formations and and deep, and another Hansel and Gretel. Also, I have now kind of gotten interested plants sticking thru the snow. Here they come.

Hopeful Sunrise

It is 400am, sunrise is 721, and sunset is almost 1100. So if I am to get anymore sunrise pictures, I have to set an alarm and get ready to go out. I am pretty sure that Ron wont go, which means that I have to think about going out alone. If there are pictures, I made, if not, I didn't.

I am heading to KC in May, may have to wait for sunrises and sunsets until I get back.

Good night all,
Bonnie

NATIVE YOUTH OLYMPICS

ALERT! This is a BIG deal. The Native Youth Olympics, NYO, is coming next week here to James C Isabel school here in Teller AK.

There are many many different native sports, talents, events. I cant wait. I have heard the announcements for NYO practice times but I had no idea what it meant. Now I do, sort of.

AND the DISCOVERY CHANNEL is going to be here.

As you know, I will be there with my camera as well.

Also... if I have it right, we can watch it live streaming: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/bssd-student-broadcasting-team

The school doesn't have enough room for all the participants, We are about a hundred spaces short. They will be sleeping in the halls, wherever there is a flat spot. AND there will be school as usual during the day. WHAT???? WHERE???? HOW???? I have no idea.

IF ANY OF YOU CAN GIVE ME IDEAS HOW I CAN DRESS TO LOOK OFFICIAL AT THE EVENTS SO I CAN STAND IN FRONT OF SPECTATORS TO TAKE PICTURES, LET ME KNOW!

Will keep you updated!

Where are the keys?????

Serious Lecture

These State Troopers and Fire Police EMS came to school to talk to the students about how dangerous it is to drink and drug. Not so long ago, here in Teller, a person passed out in the outside cold weather. Because of the position the person was in a limb did not have circulation and was frozen. The limb had to be amputated.

I have never thought of that being a consequence. From the lower 48, it is crashing into something, rolling the vehicle, head on collisions, etc. There are only a few trucks here. No cars. The village is so small everybody walks. Some snow machines and of course, four wheelers.

Just in case.....

I am gone, but NOT FORGOTTEN. I refuse to be on the "Remember when" list. I will be on the "have you heard or seen what Bonnie did?"

Still Stalled in Picturevillle

I am still transferring 128.000 pictures. Discovered I have 2500 on my desktop alone. It is a very long and slow process. If anyone knows a faster process, let me know. I am transferring them to an external drive. All I do is transfer 12 at a time and look at the rainbow of death, do I want to replace, stop or whatever. It hurts. My brain hurts. Any band aids?

School's out School's out.....

Today was another blizzard. They called off school. Can you believe that? There is a community of students that is about 2 miles away. With a blizzard and drifting the bus could not get through.

Nome was closed down today, not just the schools, but the big grocery stores and most of the shops and businesses. Amazing!

It is supposed to rain tomorrow. I am not sure what kind of soup that will make, will let you know. Love ya!

For your information

My postings have slowed down a bit. I cant believe, nor can anyone believe that I froze my MAC, froze it solid. I have 128,000 pictures on it. I am now in the process of carefully moving them to my back up and off my computer. After I get these moved, I will then be able to bring them back a little at a time to work on them.

I will be able to unload my camera soon too. I don't want to get anything mixed up.
Just want Holly and Vin to know that it can be done. It can freeze up. And I can do it.
