New Information about "the road"

It has been brought to my attention about a previous post. I said we are the only village in Alaska that has a road in and out of Nome. When you think about it, it is actually an intellectually stupid statement. If a road goes in it goes out too. If you can get to Nome from Teller an intelligent person can figure out that the road goes to Teller from Nome as well.
Actually my loving husband, the English teacher brought that to my attention, so no one needs to do the same.
Thank you, I appreciate your support.

The Last Great Race on Earth

The Iditarod Trail, now a National Historic trail started out as a mail and supply route into Nome, then gold route out of Nome.
In 1925, part of the Iditarod Trail became a life saving highway for epidemic-stricken Nome. Diphtheria threatened and serum had to be brought in; again by intrepid dog mushers and their faithful hard-driving dogs. (ok it was a copy and paste) But I did see the REAL lead dog (stuffed) in honor in a museum in Nome.

It just so happened that Ron was in Nome when the first musher sled team crossed the finish line. It must have been the most exciting sight to see. Ron said they were screaming and yelling and some were making an odd noise. He thinks it may have been a walrus noise??? I have to ask and see if i can find out what it is. And of course, he didn't have a camera. And of course, I wasn't there. sigh.

So the next best thing is the newspaper. Here are some pictures of the winner, his dogs and his family.

From Anchorage, in south central Alaska, to Nome on the western Bering Sea coast, each team of 12 to 16 dogs and their musher cover over 1150 miles in 10 to 17 days. The dogs do not get replaced. If they get hurt or ill, they have to continue without replacing him. Some teams get so small that they cannot finish the race. Really important to train and train their teams to keep them healthy and strong.

Of the Alaska Subject

This is off the Alaska subject. My neighbor is 22 years old, she could be my granddaughter if my girls would have moved along a little earlier, took one look at my blender, my perfectly fine blender, still clean and runs just fine says very loudly. "THAT IS JUST LIKE MY GRANDMAS!"
I didn't know blenders looked any different. Guess I will have to look at more pictures.

Aurora Borealis

These are some pictures of what I saw, but my camera couldn't take the images. SO, I googled images of the Aurora Borealis and joila, there is what I saw but somebody else took the pictures. Does that make sense?
OK.... This is what I saw. My camera only shot black, no light images EXCEPT the village lights of Brevig as shown in my previous post.
These pictures shows what the Aurora Borealis LOOKED like with my eyes.
I hope that explained what I saw and didn't see and found images.
